INTERNATIONAL ASSIGNMENTS

Int Ass
HSBC - Hong Kong
(2010-11)

My international assignment in Hong Kong-Asia’s World City and the “Pearl of the Orient”-came at a pivotal time, just as the region was emerging from the global financial crisis. As VP of Global Data and Information Management at HSBC, I was entrusted with a mission that was both urgent and transformative: leading the deployment of collections data analytics and automation across eight Asian countries. The economic climate demanded robust recovery strategies, and our work was at the heart of HSBC’s efforts to strengthen resilience and support business continuity during a period of pronounced uncertainty.

Our team’s focus was on standardizing analytics and Management Information (MI) capabilities to enhance collections efficiency and portfolio risk management. We built dialer-specific collections data marts and developed Cognos reports that provided actionable insights to local operations teams. By collaborating closely with Group Collections, Default Analytics, and IT teams, we were able to break down silos and deliver integrated solutions that empowered business units to leverage predictive analytics and data-driven decision-making. Reflecting on this period, I am proud of the tangible business outcomes we achieved: increased collections efficiency, reduced portfolio risk, and a more unified approach to data management across Asia. The assignment also honed my ability to lead cross-functional, multicultural teams and reinforced the importance of aligning technology initiatives with broader business objectives

Personally, the city was exhilarating. Its skyline, pace, and diversity made every day feel like a new opportunity to grow. One of the highlights was participating in the Dragon Boat Festival—a uniquely Hong Kong tradition. Training with a multicultural team of colleagues and racing in Victoria Harbour was both symbolic of the collaboration we drove in the workplace and a reminder of the energy this city embodies. I also immersed myself in the food, nature, and culture of Hong Kong. From hiking Dragon’s Back to enjoying late-night dim sum in Kowloon, every experience offered insight into the city’s rhythm—a blend of tradition and ambition.

Hong Kong sharpened my leadership, broadened my worldview, and deepened my appreciation for cross-border teamwork. It wasn’t just a professional milestone—it was a personal evolution. The lessons I learned there continue to influence how I lead, collaborate, and build for the future.

HSBC Jakarta, Indonesia
(2013-14)

My assignment in Jakarta as VP, Global Data and Information Management at HSBC was both challenging and rewarding. I led the strategic execution of an enterprise data management initiative, implementing a global data platform that enabled a 360° customer view across loans, credit cards, deposits, and wealth management. This platform empowered local teams with actionable insights, driving smarter cross-sell strategies, deeper customer engagement, and measurable revenue growth.

The project involved end-to-end implementation: on-ground data discovery, source-to-target mapping, data governance, and production deployment. Aligning global data strategies with local market needs, I oversaw data integration, automation, and analytics adoption, contributing to Indonesia’s rapidly modernizing financial sector and supporting HSBC’s leadership in the market. The solution we delivered was not just a data platform, but a foundational layer for intelligent customer engagement and growth. It empowered business teams with timely, actionable insights that drove smarter cross-sell strategies, personalized offerings, and measurable improvements in customer lifetime value and revenue. By providing integrated views of customer behavior, financial relationships, and risk exposure, the platform helped HSBC enhance service delivery, deepen customer engagement, and gain competitive advantage in a rapidly evolving market.

I had to quickly adapt to bridge global technology standards with local operational realities, navigating cultural nuances and regulatory complexity. This experience deepened my ability to lead with empathy, agility, and strategic precision—while upholding enterprise-level expectations for data quality, governance, and stakeholder alignment.

Outside work, Jakarta—and Indonesia as a whole—offered a cultural immersion unlike any other. From day one, I was welcomed with warmth, humility, and an incredible sense of community. I explored the sprawling metropolis of Jakarta with its contrasts of tradition and modernity, and also took time to travel across the country. Weekends were filled with adventure and exploration—whether it was watching sunrise over Borobudur, hiking through the lush hills of Bandung, or relaxing on the beaches of Bali. Indonesian cuisine became a favorite—whether it was street-side nasi goreng, spicy rendang, or the many sambals that accompanied nearly every dish. Sharing meals with colleagues and local friends became a key part of my cultural learning and personal connection.

Jakarta taught me that leadership is about context and connection as much as execution. It reinforced the power of humility, cross-cultural respect, and purpose-driven innovation. My time in Indonesia not only elevated my ability to lead strategic data initiatives in emerging markets—it gave me memories, friendships, and lessons that continue to shape me.

JLL Mumbai, India
(2016-18)

Returning to Mumbai, the “City of Dreams,” for my first professional assignment in India was a homecoming and a new adventure. As VP, Head of Data & Analytics at JLL, I built and scaled the Data & Analytics team from scratch, expanding across multiple cities and driving a data-driven transformation. I managed the deployment of CRM systems, enterprise dashboards, and analytics tools, enhancing decision-making and operational efficiency.

I also spearheaded JLL India’s technology adoption strategy—bridging business and IT to automate workflows, streamline reporting, and embed data into day-to-day operations. These efforts not only created a data-driven culture but also helped establish the India team as a key enabler of JLL’s global analytics capabilities.

Recognizing the foundational importance of trustworthy data, I established a dedicated Data Quality function focused on data governance, Master Data Management (MDM), normalization, and quality assurance. I led the design and implementation of robust validation frameworks, standardization protocols, and automated quality checks to ensure consistent, high-integrity datasets across CRM and analytics platforms.

These capabilities empowered business leaders with accurate, actionable insights while ensuring scalability, compliance, and long-term data stewardship.

On the personal front, Mumbai was an emotional reconnection with my roots as this was the city I grew up  —blending nostalgia with new perspectives. The city’s iconic pace, diversity, and resilience constantly pushed me to operate at my best. I reconnected with India’s vibrant cultural life—whether it was enjoying street food in Churchgate, exploring the colonial architecture of Fort, or taking weekend walks along Marine Drive. Living in Mumbai reminded me of the energy that comes from chaos, and the innovation that’s born from constraint. I gained a renewed appreciation for what it takes to build and lead in resource-constrained environments while maintaining a future-ready outlook.

More than anything, Mumbai reinforced the power of adaptability, empathy, and execution. It reminded me that leadership is local, and that meaningful change often happens when technology meets trust and cultural understanding. The experience shaped me not just as a data leader, but as a more grounded and versatile professional.

JLL Bangalore, India
(2019-25)

My assignment in Bangalore was a defining chapter in my career—one where I was entrusted with building something from the ground up. As CIO of JLL India and SVP, Global Head of Cloud & Data Infrastructure, I was tasked with creating and scaling JLL’s Global In-House Centre (GIC). What began as a vision on paper evolved into a thriving tech powerhouse with over 1,000 engineers spanning software development, infrastructure, cybersecurity, data analytics, and more.

Professionally, the scope was vast and deeply strategic. I led the full lifecycle of the GIC—from blueprint to build-out to long-term integration with global product and business units. We established agile operating models, robust talent strategies, and engineering standards that ensured our teams were not just an extension, but a true centre of excellence.

In parallel, we built deep capabilities in multi-cloud infrastructure, DevOps, cybersecurity, and enterprise platforms, enabling the GIC to serve as a global delivery engine for high-priority programs, M&A technology integrations, and platform modernization initiatives. The success of the Bangalore GIC laid the foundation for JLL’s broader global delivery model and directly influenced the strategic decision to expand into other regions, including Mexico.

Beyond the office, Bangalore quickly became a city that I grew to love. Known as the “Silicon Valley of India,” it offered a perfect blend of innovation, talent, and cosmopolitan energy. The city’s favourable weather, vibrant café culture, and proximity to weekend getaways like Coorg and Hampi added balance to the intensity of the work. Personally, the assignment was immensely fulfilling. It wasn't just about scaling a team; it was about shaping a sustainable, high-impact organization rooted in trust, innovation, and purpose. It felt like leaving behind a legacy—a foundation that would continue to power JLL’s growth long after I moved on.

Bangalore taught me that great technology doesn’t just scale systems—it scales people, ideas, and ambitions.
